About Me
Consultant and Researcher in technologies for community voice.
Hi There! I'm Delvin Varghese - and I design tech solutions that promote community involvement in NGO work.
I work with nonprofits in Australia and abroad who are committed to empowering local communities. Typically these organisations work in what is called the humanitarian, International development or community development sector. I am a technologist by background (with a Masters in Computer Science) and recently finished a PhD where I reflected on my consulting and project management experiences developing low-cost and accessible audio and video technologies (e.g. Community Radio, Participatory Video). These technologies enabled rural, low-literate communities in developing countries to be more actively involved in Training and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E). Over the last 5 years, I have worked with a range of national and international NGOs, and have been involved in the design and deployment of technology projects in 11 countries across 5 continents. I draw heavily on co-design and participatory methodologies in my work. I’ve spent over 15 years living, studying and working in India (and I speak 2 Indian languages) – which shapes how I work and talk about international development and humanitarian work. I’ve also lived in the UK, in the North East and in Wales, where I successfully managed to understand the beautiful local accent! I now live in Melbourne, Australia with my wife. We love meeting new people, so say hi if you are in the area! |
